History There used to be a morgue out the back for the gold miners that died. Due to this there are two friendly ghosts that help the cleaners and when you take a photo they are usually there. The hotel is a great place to go because it has comfortable bedrooms and lovely meals and is an historic building. The Moirs were one of the first owners. It was built in 1862 by Mr Park Hill because of all the people that rushed into Palmerston for their gold mining and farming jobs at this time. So if you are ever heading along State Highway 85 towards Central Otago stop in for a night at the Highwayman Hotel for a lovely meal, a nice comfortable sleep and possibly a look at a ghost!! |
