Campbell's Bay Primary School

Welcome to the Campbell's Bay School website about World War Two in our area.
This is us - eight Campbell's Bay boys from Year Six. Things have sure changed when you compare life here and now, to during the war. The reason we did this project was because we wanted to learn about the war in Campbell's Bay. We thought that it would be interesting for us and for other people to read. This photo shows some Campbell's Bay School pupils and some New Zealand soldiers on Campbell's Bay beach. It was taken in the early 1940's. In this, you will find out what D-Day was, who the Allied Forces were, who the enemies were, and what the war was about. The war started because Hitler wanted to take over the world, but the good guys stopped him dead in his tracks. We wanted to interview people from Campbell's Bay and find out what happened at our school and on our beaches. We think it was very scary for the children because they didn't know what was going to happen. We hope you enjoy our work. Most of our information has come from interviews with people. We hope it is accurate, but it was a long time ago, so some details may not be completely correct, especially as they are memories from people who were children at the time. We are very grateful to all the people who have spent so much time answering our questions.
