My Nana Shirley came to this school. She was 5 years old when she came to Waterloo School. My Nana Shirley was brainy. My Nana was kind and nice.

I started when I was 5 years old.

I used to walk to school.
What did you learn at school?
I remember learning how to spell, we did a lot of spelling.

Yes, we did do exams and we had to study hard for them.
What else did you use to do at school?
We did sport, I played softball.
Did you have to go to school in the afternoon?
Yes we had school in the afternoon.

How old were you when you left school?
I was 15 years old when I left school.
Why did you leave school?
I left school to go to work.
Did you have a bicycle when you were a child?
Yes I had a bike.
When did you get presents?
We got presents at Christmas time.
What sort of presents? Tell me about a present you remember.
I got a bike and I really liked getting that.
Did you have a radio or TV?
We had a radio but no TV.
When did you get your first radio/TV?
We got our first radio in 1940 at home.
When you were a teenager, what time did you have to be home at night?
I was allowed to be home at anytime.
