Operation Phoenix North Shore
Our project : Operation Phoenix North Shore: Our Tsunami Aid Project
Our project was about the Boxing Day Tsunami in Sri Lanka, and what our North Shore Community did to help, through a project called Operation Phoenix North Shore. This project was started by a group of staff from the North Shore City Council. Thanks to the fundraising Operation Phoenix North Shore did, there are now six new houses in the village of Thalpitiya.
In North Shore City, as in many other parts of New Zealand, there is a tsunami risk. If a tsunami should happen in New Zealand it could destroy parts of our Living Heritage (our natural environment and the people and creatures who inhabit it)
So we also investigated the lessons we could learn from this terrible disaster and what we can do to keep safe and how to preserve our heritage should a tsunami happen here.
