Social Studies in the NZ Curriculum: 

CULTURE AND HERITAGE STRAND
Aim: 
To understand the contribution of culture and heritage on our local identity

TIME, CONTINUITY AND CHANGE
Aim:  To understand how past events have changed aspects of the lives of our community.  Various means of recording these events will be sought and investigated – both written and pictorial.

THE PROCESSES 

Inquiry
Students will use:

• questions to seek information
• collect and record information
• draw conclusions and communicate findings.

Social decision-making
Students will make decisions to develop solutions to relevant problems.

Students will understand a little of how choices and decisions in history have resulted in the local society and landforms we enjoy today in our area.

Students will reflect upon and evaluate the steps taken, and findings made, to decide how well they have completed an inquiry process and researched a topic.
