The Rua Pits
- The rua pits were used to store food in.
- There are about 80 rua pits hidden around Koru Pa.
- Some rua pits had tunnels leading to other rua pits.
- The deepest of the rua pits were about 2-4 metres deep.
- When Koru Pa was being attacked, women and children would hide and shelter in them.
- The food they used to store in them included kumara and potatoes.
- Some pits were used to access the river at night via the tunnels when the pa was under attack. This meant that they could safely collect water.
