Devonport's Concrete Boat

In Devonport two men built the first concrete boat in New Zealand.

In 1920 they had this concrete swimming and diving raft anchored near the beach. The raft was a good place to start and finish swimming races, for diving competitions and for swimmers. But in 1928 the raft started to crack. The next year it broke in half. The raft is buried on the North Head rocks and you can still see it today. Here it is, can you spot it?
